Rep. Ilhan Omar blasted “fake news stories” and individuals trafficking in “anti-Muslim smears” on Thursday — hours after a report was printed declaring that she married her brother.
“The similar individuals who chastise the progressive movement consistently traffic in anti-Muslim smears and loathe speech against me and those people I represent,” the Minnesota Democrat tweeted.
“It’s nearly as if they do not genuinely care about on the internet harassment.”
The 38-yr-outdated congresswoman was responding to tweets from “The View” co-host Meghan McCain, which includes just one from Wednesday that criticized Sen. Bernie Sanders and his “army of Bernie bro’s” for misogynistic on the net attacks.
The other was a screengrab in which McCain shared yet another tweet accusing Omar of marrying her brother and wrote: “How is this not a greater deal?”
“Paying persons to crank out faux information stories in purchase to delegitimize me and those people I depict is not a excellent look,” Omar wrote. “Desperation is a sad mobilizing software.”
The statement came hours soon after the Day-to-day Mail printed a story in which a Minnesota man named Abdihakim Osman — who claimed to have ties to Omar — stated she married her brother to assist him achieve citizenship to the United States.
The Submit claimed in January that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was examining the statements.
Omar has regularly denied the allegations, calling them “disgusting lies.”
